El Dr. José Caballero es economista principal del IMD World Competitiveness Center (Lausana, Suiza). José es responsable de los diferentes proyectos de investigación del Centro y lidera el equipo de investigación en el desarrollo e implementación de nuevos modelos de evaluación de la competitividad. Sus intereses de investigación se centran en las fuentes de la competitividad de los países y, más específicamente, en la competitividad de las empresas.

Uno de sus objetivos es entender cómo las asimetrías sociales afectan la creación de valor agregado, e identificar los medios para mejorar esas asimetrías y fomentar la competitividad. José ha realizado investigaciones en el International Institute for Corporate Governance (Yale School of Management) y en el National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER, EE. UU.). Además, ha actuado como asesor académico del World Justice Project en el desarrollo del Rule of Law Index.

José también ha trabajado como consultor para el Programa de Apoyo de la Unión Europea para la Integración Centroamericana, el Private Sector Advisory Department (Banco Mundial), la International Investment Corporation (Banco Mundial) y el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo. José es un experto en la economía política de América Latina y ha enseñado en la Universidad de Warwick (Reino Unido) y la Universidad del West of England (Bristol, Reino Unido).

José posee un doctorado (Política y Estudios Internacionales) de la Universidad de Warwick y una maestría (Ciencias Sociales: Gobierno) de la Universidad de Harvard.

José Caballero, PhD. is a Senior Economist at the IMD World Competitiveness Center. He is responsible for the Center’s different research projects and leads the research team in the development and implementation of new models of assessing competitiveness.

His research interests focus on the sources of the competitiveness of countries and, more specifically, on the competitiveness of enterprises. He is keen on understanding how social asymmetries impact value creation and the means to ameliorate those asymmetries while furthering competitiveness.

José has conducted research at the International Institute for Corporate Governance (Yale School of Management) and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER, USA). In addition, he has acted as an academic advisor to the World Justice Project in the development of the Rule of Law Index. José has also worked as a consultant for the European Union Support Program for Central American Integration, the Private Sector Advisory Department at the World Bank, the International Investment Corporation (World Bank), and the Inter-American Development Bank.

José is an expert on the political economy of Latin America and has taught at the University of Warwick (UK) and the University of the West of England (Bristol, UK). He holds a PhD (Politics and International Studies) from the University of Warwick and an MA (Social Science: Government) from Harvard University.
